Victorian 1900's French White Cotton Step In Teddy Lingerie, Hand Embroidered Underwear
Completely lovely.
Here is a fabulous French white step-in teddy constructed in a light weight sheer cotton.
Raised floral embroidery at bust line.
Hand embroidery with raised stitches forming floral wreaths, bows, and sprigs. Small tiny french knots embroidered into bows. Hand embroidered scalloped edges.
The bodice top and shoulder straps have embroidered eyelet holes around the neckline to weave a lovely ribbon through, to pull it in, if you wish to form to size. Waist has machine lace with slits for ribbon weaving. The lower part of teddy has two eyelet holes also to weave ribbons through to close side flaps and to embellish.
Front closure has
6 tiny mother of pearl buttons.
I'm thinking that this one is most likely from the turn of the century, 1900's, although it could be earlier.
The handwork is impeccable and it could easily be translated into a slip or a nightie or worn as is. Loose fitting at bust and hip area.

Bust up to 39”,
Waist 25",
Length 38” ( this measurement include the straps)
Straps are 8-1/2” long one side.
As found in an old country farmhouse estate auction in western New York.
I've been hand processing and cleaning and hand washing and setting out in the sun and ironing some wonderful antique pieces of mostly Victorian lingerie lately. They've come in dingy and they leave in glorious shape. Just ready for you.
Probably never having been washed, it was most likely used on special occasions and spent most of it's life carefully stored to be handed down to the next generation. The fiber is strong and still has great body.
This step in teddy was stored away decades ago and it is in good original condition and recently laundered and pressed
with no fading and no wear, as seen in photos, no insect damage,  no odors, no repairs and a tiny hole in back, bodice area. Ribbons are not present.
Overall threads are in sturdy and strong condition, not weak at all. Ready to wear.
This teddy can be tucked into a skirt, over a pair of shorts, a bathing suit cover up, as a dress with hot pants belted. The possibilities are literally endless.
