    This is a rare original 8" X 10" press photograph of PEARL BAILEY in a scene from the
    "New Broadway Cast" of the JERRY HERMAN and MICHAEL STEWART musical comedy "HELLO, DOLLY!"
    at the St. James Theatre in New York City
    . (The show opened January 16th, 1964
    at the St. James Theatre
    and ran for 2844 performances while simultaneously playing on the road.) ..... During the exceptionally long Broadway run, nine different actresses played the role of "Mrs. Dolly Levi Gallagher", created by the legendary CAROL CHANNING. Her first replacement was GINGER ROGERS (1965) followed by MARTHA RAYE (1967), BETTY GRABLE (1967), BIBI OSTERWALD (1967), PEARL BAILEY (November 12th, 1967), THELMA CARPENTER (1969), PHYLLIS DILLER (1969) and finally ETHEL MERMAN (1970). Several other prominent actresses took the show on the road including MARY MARTIN, DOROTHY LAMOUR, EVE ARDEN and YVONNE DE CARLO ..... This new version of "HELLO, DOLLY!" was played by an All-Black Cast and opened at the St. James Theatre on November 12th, 1967. It starred PEARL BAILEY as "Mrs. Dolly Levi Gallagher" and CAB CALLOWAY as "Horace Vandergelder" and featured EMILY YANCY, CHRIS CALLOWAY, WINSTON DeWITT HEMSLEY, SHERRI PEACHES BREWER, MABEL KING, RICHARD KIE-WYE KHAN, ROGER LAWSON and JACK CROWDER .....
