    Description

A new colorful Guatemalan textile handwoven on a back-strap loom from Santa Domingo Xencoj Guatemala. You can hem the sides and wear it as a huipil (poncho/blouse) or it could be mounted or stretched and hung as a dramatic piece of art. It is made of 2 hand loomed red panels with narrow multi-colored vertical stripes. Hand embroidered into the red base panels are a delightful series of traditional stylized animals and birds in shades of purples, pinks, greens, and blues. The collar is black velvet. The measures are; width across the shoulders 33 1/2”, length 27 ½” as huipil, 58”as wall hanging, neck opening rectangular 7”x 8” circumference 30”. A free size that should fit any adult. These huipils are woven and worn by Mayan women living in the hill villages of Guatemala. Each village has its own particular design, pattern color and style. It takes many hours for a woman to weave one huipil. They are made for family, neighbors and if sold become an important source for extra income.
